Natural Energy Conservation (Sunlight)
Uses of natural sunlight is emphasized in the space whenever possible. The skylight at the center of space is opened up further to allow more natural lighting to flow through the space all the way from the roof to the ground floor.
Energy Generation
The kinetic energy of users in the space is allowed to be preserved and converted into electrical energy for appliances within the space. This is made possible by using Pavegen Tiles and installed pedal energy generators.

The spaces invites natural sunlight and water forms as a main element of space culture. The private space design is inspired by sounds and light from a natural cave. Dark ambiances with subtle still water reflections give a calm and relaxing space. People in this space feels comfortable to reflect of one’s thoughts, a process essential for self-change and improvement.

This project proposes an environmental hub that provide eco services for the community. The design concept derives from the bone marrow cell pattern of humans to roots of nature trees, describing the close relationship between nature and humans that cannot be broken in order to build a sustainable future for both.

The public space design mimics the bright light in a luscious forest field. Ambiance encourages outgoing activities like socializing between people, adventure to discover new things and cheerfulness to give courage to overcome every obstacle. Therefore the water element reflecting the space would be flowing and active in nature.

BECA CULTURE ARCHIVE

Mezzanine Floor Plan
Ground Floor Plan
Design symbolizes the rapidly disappeaing traditional culture of trishaws in Penang. Starting from a heavy bottom, slowly lightening towards the top. The concept design brings in uses of overhand structures to bring the eye along flipping over our heads to symbolize the conversion for flipping a new page entering the age of modern transportation.
This event space design is for the purpose of culture preservation of the rapidly disappearing ‘Beca culture’ as a form of main transport in Georgetown, Penang. Trishaw maker shops in Georgetown has closed out of business one by one over the years as the glory light of trishaw riding days grow dim. Currently leaving a single standing trishaw shop in whole of Penang, and less that 200 existing trishaws.

The exhibition space extends from the ground floor upon entering the space into the built-in mezzanine area. Gathered exhibits and historical information are displayed on banners and structures hung from the ceiling designed to guide the eyes upwards when viewing the exhibits.
Detail Drawing

The corridor acts as a long passageway like ‘time travelling’ to a different environment, just as the culture of Beca changed overtime.
The past is left behind and commemorated while the future is looked forward to.

A retreat home for a family of three located within mother nature’s great of thrilling outdoor activities, making it a hotspot for adventurous tourist looking for an adrenaline rush during the day, and a warm hospitable suites during the chilling nights.
Given the suitable temperature, wineries thrive in the area and naturally wine drinking became a common leisure of the people. To complement the site and its people, this home design is based on the concept of wooden wine barrels used to age wine through the passing of time. Symbolizing the feeling of simply being in the moment, unaware of slipping hours.

This concept comes by a simple snowflake shape. Even though the snowflake only appears in the cold frosty weathers, it forms a season of warmth and togetherness to many. As the snowflake falls to the ground, it evolves from just a mere speack of dust into a beautiful ice crystal as it grows its ‘arms’ surrounding its center during the journey of each snowflake from the sky to the ground. In bigger words, growing journey of our society similarly had led us to better, more beautiful lives and is worth celebrating with a sense of delight and a thankful heart.
Concept model as an image of good feelings ‘blossoming’ within us. Implemented the design concept of growing delight. Connected center represents a shared origin and promotes togetherness.
